June 23, 2009 "Trust and Obey"

"And we will receive whatever we request because we obey him and do the things that please him."
~ I John 3:22 ~

Obedience and trust is what we are called to place on and towards God, to please Him..

Do I truly trust God? Do I trust that when difficulty comes against me, do I truly believe that He will not leave me nor forsake me? Do I believe that He is God who is the Provider? Do I believe He is the Only True Source? Do I believe that He is my Strength and My Refuge in times of trouble?

If I believe those things about Him, do I trust Him? If I trust Him, obedience should automatically follow. It is difficult isn't it? But why? It's not because of God, it's because of my own selfish thinking. Many times I think about the right now. We very rarely think of down the road. There are many times that I don't think about the long term rewards of being obedient now.

Trust and obedience go together so beautifully. It is like a pair of scissors. It is effective only when the two sharp pieces of metal work together in unison cutting through things that need to be cut and formed.

When I trust and obey in the Lord there will be a cutting away of the excess and a forming into what God wants me to become for His glory.

The words to this old hymn, 'Trust and Obey' comes to my mind:

1. When we walk with the Lord in the light of his word, what a glory he sheds on our way! While we do his good will, he abides with us still, and with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey,
for there's no other way to be happy in Jesus,
but to trust and obey.

2. Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay; not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross, but is blest if we trust and obey.

(Refrain)
3. But we never can prove the delights of his love until all on the altar we lay; for the favor he shows, for the joy he bestows, are for them who will trust and obey.

(Refrain)
4. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at his feet, or we'll walk by his side in the way; what he says we will do, where he sends we will go; never fear, only trust and obey.
