June 23, 2009 "The Opposite"

"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."
~ Matthew 5:13-16 ~

I was watching the informative video for the Segway Tours in Austin. It was funny to watch and see that the normal way we move and function is the opposite of what we are required to do to operate the Segway machine.

As I thought about that, I was reminded of how we are called to do the opposite of how the world operates. We are part of the world but we are not to be conformed to it's way of doing things and thinking. It is amazing when you truly think about it, living in the world is a world of habits that we do not want to pick up, yet I have many that remind me of this.

I am reminded today that I want to live with power so that what I do as I operate through the power of the Holy Spirit it excites and causes people around me in the world to ask the question, "What is different?" And I can say, "I'm glad you asked..."

We are not of the world, but we are called to go into the world. We are not to separate ourselves from the world, but we are called to separate our way of thinking, and doing from the world. The question that is in the forefront of my mind this morning? How will they know I'm not 'of this world' if I'm just like them? They never will know.

I am encouraged this morning to know that we have great power on our side. It is now my job to allow the Holy Spirit to work through me. Will I allow the Spirit of God shine His light on the hurting, and struggling?
