July 31, 2009, "Do Not Fret"

TRIUMPHANT VICTORIOUS REMINDERS
Inspired by the Holy Spirit
Written by: Teresa Criswell

"Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret--it only causes harm."
~ Psalm 37:7, 8 ~

The stress of lack; along with the stress of abundance, it's different yet the same.

I have heard from multi-millionaires, "The more you have the more you have to lose."
And I have heard from the impoverished, "If I only I had one thing to call my own."
The middle class says, "It's not about the money, however, money would make it a lot easier."

"I wish my hair were curly."
"I wish my hair were straight."
"I wish I was shorter."
"I wish I were taller."
"If I only looked like..."
"If only my husband would do..."
"If only my wife would do..."
"If only my children were like..."
"If only my pastor were..."
"If only my clothes were..."
"If only I were a size..."
"If only I would..."

We live in our own world of great dissatisfaction and in that we can be the cause of
self-induced stress and fret.

I am being lovingly reminded today at this moment to be content with what I have, yet to think of and long for God and communion with Him. "Just think how rich my relationship would be with You Lord if I 'obsessed' over being satisfied in You the way I do with other things."

I noticed in the above 'if only's', it has everything to do with me and nothing to do with God or anyone else. Plain ol' selfishness manifesting in many different forms, stemming from none other than pride.

Lord, I want to be grateful for the blessings I do have. If the only thing I can be grateful is for the air I breathe, then I want to be grateful. However, I have so much more to be grateful for than just that.

I must focus on the good things and Who You are today. Lord, thank you for your grace to have eyes to see the great things you have done! And through that may I know with great expectancy what You are going to do no matter what my circumstances look like...YOU will make a way!

I am reminded today to not fret. The reason? Because it only causes harm.

I am called to trust in the Lord; not fret in my circumstances.
